Petrelintide

The therapeutic landscape of obesity is changing rapidly, most recently with long-acting amylin agonists as a novel class of anti-obesity medications.1 Amylin is co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic β cells in response to nutrient intake; it slows gastric emptying, suppresses postprandial glucagon secretion, and probably acts as a satiety signal.2 Importantly, these effects are mediated through pathways partly complementary to those of GLP-1.2 The amylin receptor is complex, comprising the calcitonin receptor and one of three receptor activity-modifying proteins, together forming the AMY1, AMY2, and AMY3 receptors.
