Methodology · worked example, guidelines & full notes
Specific but insensitive for LVH.
When to use
Apply Sokolow-Lyon and Cornell voltage criteria to the ECG.
How it works
Sokolow-Lyon: SV1 + RV5/6 ≥ 35 mm. Cornell: RaVL + SV3 > 28 mm (men) / > 20 mm (women).
Key points
- Specific but insensitive for LVH.
- Affected by body habitus, age and lead placement.
- Echocardiography is the reference standard.

The values below come from this tool's own example placeholders and are computed server-side with the formula shown on this page, so the arithmetic can be checked quickly. It demonstrates how to substitute values only — it is not clinical advice and not a real case.

Frequently asked questions
- What are the limits and cautions when using Sokolow-Lyon & Cornell LVH Indices?
- For licensed clinicians and clinical researchers. Interpret results with history, investigations and local protocols; not a diagnosis or prescription, and not a substitute for multidisciplinary decision-making or local guidelines.
- Does Sokolow-Lyon & Cornell LVH Indices upload patient data? Where is it calculated?
- Calculation runs locally in the browser; inputs and results are not uploaded. For licensed clinicians only; interpret with history, investigations and local protocols — not a diagnosis or prescription.
- How is Sokolow-Lyon & Cornell LVH Indices calculated in practice? Can you show a worked example?
- Inputs: S in V1 20 mm, R in V5 or V6 (larger) 20 mm, R in aVL 8 mm, S in V3 15 mm, Sex Male → Result: LVH by voltage Criteria met(Sokolow-Lyon: 40 mm (LVH if ≥ 35), Cornell: 23 mm (LVH if > 28))
