Common questions

What is MELD-Na Score?

Sodium-adjusted MELD (UNOS 2016) for end-stage liver disease severity and allocation reference. Instant, browser-side.

How is MELD-Na Score calculated? What is the core formula?

MELD = 3.78·ln(bilirubin) + 11.2·ln(INR) + 9.57·ln(creatinine) + 6.43 (each floored at 1.0, creatinine capped 4.0); MELD-Na adjusts for sodium (125–137) when MELD > 11. Range 6–40. Compute base MELD from bilirubin, INR and creatinine, then apply the UNOS sodium adjustment when MELD > 11 (Na bounded 125–137).

When is MELD-Na Score used?

Estimate 90-day mortality risk in chronic liver disease; allocation follows your own transplant system's standard.

How should MELD-Na Score results be interpreted?

MELD-Na improves short-term mortality prediction versus classic MELD; higher scores map to higher wait-list priority.

What are the key clinical points for MELD-Na Score?

Each component is floored at 1.0; creatinine is capped at 4.0. Dialysis ≥ 2× in the week sets creatinine to 4.0. Hyponatraemia raises the score. The score is bounded between 6 and 40.

What are the limits and cautions when using MELD-Na Score?

Hyponatremia correction and fluid status can change Na and thus the score. Use the same lab units and dialysis conventions as UNOS. Score supports listing discussions — it is not a bedside treatment algorithm. For licensed clinicians and clinical researchers. Interpret results with history, investigations and local protocols; not a diagnosis or prescription, and not a substitute for multidisciplinary decision-making or local guidelines.

Does MELD-Na Score upload patient data? Where is it calculated?

Calculation runs locally in the browser; inputs and results are not uploaded. For licensed clinicians only; interpret with history, investigations and local protocols — not a diagnosis or prescription.
